Contribution of the CBC to the budget 2019.

Dear CBC members & friends,

The budget 2019-2020 was presented on the 10th June 2019 by the Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development​.As previously communicated President Antoine Kon-Kam KING, Past President Laval Leong Son, Secretary David Koon and Asst-Treasurer Yan Ng met with the Financial Secretary, Mr. Dev Manraj and his Senior Staff on Thursday, 25thMay 2019, to discuss the submission made by CBC on Pre-Budget Consultation. Various matters raised by our members were discussed at that meeting.

We are pleased to announce that many items from our recommendations were mentioned in the budget, namely on:·

Facilitating the processing of work and residence permits to foreign nationals. This now includes a “Post-Study Work Visa” to allow international students to work for 3 years in Mauritius after completion of undergraduate studies in certain sectors;·

Introducing of free broadband internet to a larger polulation;·

Introducing measures to improve efficiency and to reduce delays at the Registrar General;·

Transforming the Port – Expanding its Role & Boosting its Competitiveness;· Establishing a regime for Robotics and AI enabled financial advisory services;·

Implementation of a Waste to Energy project, waste management and waste recycling programme.
