The People’s Government of Zhangjiajie City in collaboration with the Economic Development Board Mauritius, Bank of China (Mauritius) Limited and the Chinese Business Chamber (CBC) organised an Economic and Trade Matchmaking conference on May 16th at Hennessy Park Hotel.
The high level Chinese delegation included the Deputy Mayor of Zhangjiajie City, Mr. Gao Jingsheng, as well as the Chairman of the Zhangjiajie Tianmen Tourism Investment Co. Ltd, and the Party Secretary of Zhangjiajie Municipal Bureau of Commerce.
The audience was able to watch a video on the various economic sectors of Hunan province which showcased their advanced progress in agriculture, innovation, trade, tourism among other sectors. Hunan Province, located in central China, is also known for its rich cultural heritage, picturesque landscapes, and diverse economic sectors. It is famous for its stunning natural beauty, including the renowned Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which inspired the floating mountains in the movie “Avatar.” Hunan is recognized for its culinary traditions, particularly its spicy cuisine, and is the birthplace of Chairman Mao Zedong.
On the Mauritian side, Mr. Arvind Radhakrishna, the Strategic Advisor of the EDB gave a welcoming address to the Chinese delegation, and Mr. David King, the President of the CBC also gave an address to the audience. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) was represented by Ms. Belinda Udhin, who gave an overview of Mauritius and its new branding campaign “Feel our Island Energy”.
It was noted that Hunan Province was hosting the third China Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) on the theme “Common Development for a Shared Future” in Changsha city from Thursday 29 June to Sunday 2 July, and that the EDB would be attending the said expo.
The event was followed by a networking session over coffee and cakes.
